Franceâ s SdV Plurimedia Deploys Arbor Networks to Protect its Data Center and Hosting Services

Secuobs.com : 2010-10-05 17:42:55 - Arbor Networks News Releases - Chelmsford, Mass, October 5, 2010 Arbor Networks Inc, a leading provider of security and network management solutions for converged carrier networks and next-generation data centers, announced today that SdV Plurimedia SdV , an industry leading, hosting and web services provider in France, has deployed Arbor Networks Peakflow SP and the integrated Threat Management System TMS to deliver out-of-band threat detection and surgical mitigation of distributed denial of service DDoS attacks against their data center infrastructure and customer web sites A majority of SdV s customers are media companies that offer public facing services that require high performance and 100pourcents uptime SdV s customer websites are frequently attack targets due to the public facing and sometimes controversial nature of their content Therefore it s common for SdV to see attacks on a daily basis In the past, SdV had tried several attack mitigation products The main issue SdV had with these products was since they could only be deployed in-line, they presented a risk to network integrity as they became a single point of failure SdV required a solution that did not require in-line deployment After a quick trial period SdV was up and running with Arbor s Peakflow SP and TMS 3110 solution SdV created a new VLAN and inserted the new devices outside the core network causing no service interruption In fact, this out of band deployment of the Peakflow products is so important to SdV that they promote it as a means of differentiation in their very competitive market We have always considered ourselves a market leader and strive to deploy state-of-the-art technology for our customers For example, we make it a point in our marketing to describe our out-of-band attack mitigation capabilities in order to differentiate ourselves from competitors, retain existing customers and attract new ones, said Salim Gasmi, SdV Plurimedia s chief technology officer It s not a matter of choice, it s a matter of survival If we didn t have a working Arbor DDoS protection solution in place, all our customers would leave and we would be out of business, emphasized Gasmi In a data center environment, an attack on one company can lead to problems for many The risk of collateral damage is quite high, said Eric Michonnet, Arbor Networks regional director for southern Europe The cloud or hosting provider s mitigation strategy becomes essential at this point, both for their reputation and its customers If they react by shutting down the service to the compromised customer in order to protect others, this goes against everything driving cloud adoption today, such as cost savings and always on availability Then there is the damage to the brands and reputations of impacted web properties This is why real-time mitigation, as delivered via our Threat Management System, is such an essential component in protecting today s Internet data center By tightly integrating TMS into the Peakflow SP platform, Arbor Networks delivers a solution that combines network-wide anomaly detection and traffic engineering with carrier-class threat management that automatically detects and surgically removes only attack traffic while maintaining legitimate business traffic Additionally, TMS complements Peakflow SP s other mitigation techniques, including fingerprint sharing, Border Gateway Protocol BGP black-hole routing, BGP flow-spec and support for other mitigation technologies The Peakflow SP platform offers an industry-unique combination of macro- and micro-level analysis to address all network security threats Competitive solutions require operators to log-in to multiple devices to address a single security threat This creates a cumbersome and inefficient process at a time when split-second decision making is paramount TMS streamlines operations and speeds reaction time by providing users with a single console and common user interface for thwarting multiple attacks In addition, TMS can reduce operating expenses through simplified provisioning and uncomplicated ongoing maintenance As a result, it can provide a much lower total cost of ownership than competitive solutions About Arbor Networks Arbor Networks is a leading provider of network security and management solutions for converged carrier networks and next-generation data centers, including more than 70 percent of the world s Internet service providers and many of the largest enterprise networks in use today Arbor s secure service control solutions
