Présentation : The hacker known as Weev doesn t make a convenient cause célèbre. He s known to spew anti-semitic rants in interviews. He s the former president of an association whose mere name is too racist and homophobic to print here. And he once boasted to the New York Times that he makes people afraid for their lives. But in the wake of Weev s conviction Tuesday on charges of hacking AT T to steal iPad users email addresses, many in the security research community are rallying to his side Even trolls, they argue, don t deserve to go to prison for pointing their browser at the wrong web site. In a New York court Tuesday, 26-year-old Andrew Auernheimer, a.k.a. Weev was convicted of identify fraud and conspiracy to access a computer without authorization. His crime collecting 114,000 email addresses of iPad users stored by AT T in a hacking lark that Auernheimer claims was intended to help protect users and expose AT T s security flaws, but which the FBI saw in very different terms.
